What Can Progressive Solidarity Look Like in Existential Times?
A discussion between the German and the Israeli Left

In the wake of Israeli government’s war of destruction and displacement against the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip, and escalating settlement expansion and displacement policies in the West Bank, Israel is experiencing a surge of far-right authoritarianism. It is violently silencing dissent and oppositional voices.Meanwhile in Germany, the Left finds itself at a crossroads, grappling with how to understand and counter-act the unfolding catastrophe in front of our eyes while navigating their own role in the specific German historical context— torn between historical responsibility and a growing demand for concrete acts of progressive solidarity.Simultaneously, leftist politicians, activists and civil society organizations in Israel are in dire need of practical political support from progressives worldwide in their struggle against the dominance of the right-wing in Israel and for peaceful alternatives to the untenable status quo. This timely conversation brings together three prominent voices from the political Left in Israel and Germany. Together they will explore what meaningful solidarity can look like today, examine the challenges it faces, and reflect on the state of the relationship between the socialist Left in Israel and Germany.
