The Hebrew website “Haokets” (“the sting”) started out in August 2003 as a personal blog in Hebrew by Dr. Yossi Dahan and Dr. Itzik Saporta. In an attempt to offer an alternative to the mainstream Israeli media motivated mainly by ratings and subservience to capital and political interests, they decided to broaden its scope to a magazine-like format, while still adhering to a non-commercial ethos.
Haokets promotes an agenda that is committed to human rights, social justice, national and ethnic pluralism and peace. It is a platform for progressive and critical voices that are not usually present in mainstream media and a forum of discussion and self-expression for many Israeli civil society organizations.
Haokets is a non-profit, independent, progressive Israeli web magazine that hosts critical discussion where hundreds of writers publish professional and original pieces, such as articles, op-eds, photos and videos, on socioeconomic, cultural and philosophical issues, human rights activism, feminism and particularly on Mizrahi politics, which has been consistently neglected by both the mainstream media and the more leftist voices in Israeli non-governmental politics.
In addition, the website is a central site for advertising activities such as demonstrations, conferences, seminars, petitions etc.https://enghaokets.wordpress.com/
